Great Songwriting Basics

Most people find that songwriting can be a complete nightmare.
The main reason for this is the lack of understanding of songwriting basics that would make the song easier to write.
Instead of focusing on how the song will be structured they may turn their attention more on how they want the product to sound.
As a result, they give up and quit writing songs. This article will look at songwriting in terms of the basic elements of writing.
One of the songwriting basics is to focus on the first part of the song or the first verse. One must ensure that this verse captures to attention of the listener so they are drawn into it. To do so the lyrics in the first verse must be able to draw pictures in the mind of the listener. It is important that changes in the verses come in the words and not in the melody of the song. The melody should hold for all the verses as well with changes not coming in the tune but in the words of the song.
The chorus, which usually follows the first verse, must be written thereafter. Here is where the writer can affect the emotions of the person listening to the song strongly. To keep the listener engaged to the song, the chorus is repeated in between the verses. The chorus is usually a summation of the songs and must therefore hold the lines that the songwriter considers most important which includes the hook. It may be wiser to first write the song’s chorus or hook and then follow this up by writing the verses of the song.
Another of the songwriting basics is the refrain, which is used to sum up the theme of the song in every verse. This line is repeated in each verse and can be either the first or the last line. In songwriting, one can also add a bridge. This tends to interrupt how the music flows as it contrasts to the music being played with the effect of emotional impact to the person listening.
This is where plots and twists in the story being told by the song are brought out and secrets revealed. Listening to contemporary music and picking out these basic elements of song writing is a great way to practice.
