If you're looking for a guitar with oodles and noodles of style along with a great sound, you can't go far wrong with a Gretsch G6199 Jupiter Thunderbird.
The Gretsch G6199 Billy-Bo Jupiter Thunderbird sees legends Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top and Bo Diddley club together to bring you a modern day version of the seductive Gretsch Jupiter Thunderbird.
The hollowness of the guitar gives it a beautiful, deep rounded sound whilst avoiding feedback since it doesn't have any f-holes. It bears a master volume control, volume controls for each pickup (2) a tone control and the usual Gretsch 3 way switch.

Thumbnail fret markers make the beautiful rosewood fretboard shine and the mahogany neck gives a nice feel. The neck is the perfect depth, not to thick but not too thin either. Strangely, given it's uneven shape, it stands against an amp all by itself.
The hardware is chrome which personally I prefer to gold, especially with this color scheme of red top and black back and sides. And it's not as heavy as you might think, primarily because it's hollow.
It's not a cheap guitar but with the price you get Gretsch's highest quality. The neck is solid as a rock and you actually get proper strap locks for once. The finish is wonderful and the action works right out the box.
Bo Diddley originally designed the Gretsch G6199 in 1959 and this is a remake for the modern era. Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top apparently fell in love with the original so much that Gretsch created this new version with some extra bells and whistles. It has a seriously chambered mahogany body, ultra-thin laminate maple top, a one piece mahogany neck. It has 2 TV Jones PowerTron pickups on it that generate an awesome sound. It also bears a pinned Adjustomatic bridge and proper Schaller straplocks.

The tone of this guitar is awesome and I'd be tempted to add a Bigsby if I ever get round to buying one. It has a lovely creamy colored binding but the looks of the Gretsch G6199 is not it's biggest draw.
This is a quality instrument and lives up to the standard of the Gretsch output that we've expected for the past decade. This guitar is a keeper and if you go ahead and buy one you won't be trading it in - ever!
